Infiniti M37 and M56
The Infiniti M line won some key comparison tests when the current generation came to the market in 2006 — Consumer Reports and Car and Driver magazines were among its big fans.

Nissan’s luxury division today unveiled a redesigned version that’s set to go on sale next spring as a 2011 model, featuring curvier styling, more power, new technology, and better gas mileage — presumably coupled with the spacious interior and good ride and handling that won critical acclaim to the current car.

The current car’s 3.5-liter, 303-horsepower V6 will be replaced by a 3.7-liter — presumably a slightly more potent version of the 330-horsepower engine in Infiniti’s smaller G37 line.

The Infiniti FX35 is powered by a new 3.5 liter V6 engine and delivers an output of 303 hp (226 kW). The Infiniti FX35 is available in two drivetrains, the RWD and the AWD, which are both fitted to a dual overhead cam 3.5-liter 24-valve V6 VQ35DE gasoline engine, with aluminum-alloy block and heads, electronically controlled “drive-by-wire” throttle system, and low-friction molybdenum-coated pistons that makes use of the continuous variable valve timing which in part optimizes the opening of intake valves.

This is also coupled with an electronically controlled super-wide ratio five-speed automatic with a manumatic shift mode that includes the option of sequentially selected manual gearshifts and Downshift Rev Matching.

Infiniti unveils the 2011 M midsize luxury sedans

Infiniti also promises an active blind-spot detection system that can “help assist the driver in returning the vehicle toward the center of the original lane of travel” if he tries to change lanes into space occupied by another vehicle, a step up over some existing systems that can flash a warning but do not take control of the car.
Full specifications and pricing are due later this year; at this point, Nissan has yet to show an actual prototype car as is typical at an unveiling, but has instead projected 3D images onto a full-size clay model.
