It was designed by Kia design chief Peter Schreyer, former chief designer at Audi.

Forte shares the same platform as the Kia cee’d. It is based on the Kia Koup concept, a two-door coupe and was designed at Kia’s design studio in California.

The Forte was launched in Singapore in February 2009 as the Fort of Kia Cerato, and also launched in Vietnam by Thac Group in April 2009 as “Kia Cerato Forte”. It is still called the Kia Cerato, Australia and Russia
