When Volvo launched its first SUV, the XC90, back in 2002, it quickly became not only the brand’s top-selling vehicle in the U.S. but also its best selling model worldwide. Volvo is now hoping to build on that success by sticking with the same basic formula used for the XC90–basically, combine a stylish soft-roader with car-like dynamics and throw in a little bit of luxury–and then improve upon it.

The interior of the Volvo pleases with soothing colors and textures that fill the cabin, as well as metallic trim outlining parts of the dash. There’s also storage behind the wood paneled center stack allowed by the thin panel console Volvo favors.

Under the sheet metal, the new XC60 shares much in common with Volvo’s S80 sedan flagship. Both the turbocharged V-6 engine and Haldex all-wheel-drive system are borrowed from the S80, as are several other mechanical and structural parts.
